Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Local Guide (“we”, “us”, “the app”) handles information when you use our iOS beta. The app is an early prototype for exploring places on a map, cracking “stones”, listening to audio stories, and collecting in-app items.

Information we collect and use
Depending on how you use the app, we may process:
- Account information — If you sign in (for example with Google), we receive identifiers and profile details needed to create and maintain your account (such as your user ID, email address, and display name).
- Location — With your permission, we use your device’s location to show nearby places on the map and load content for your area. Location is used while you use the map; background location is only used in explicit developer test flows, not in normal product use.
- App activity — We store progress tied to your account, such as discoveries, claims, journal entries, collectibles, and interactions with places and stories. This is sent to our backend so your progress syncs across sessions.
- Device and local storage — The app caches map and app data on your device to improve performance. Cached data is tied to your use of the app.
- Feedback — If you submit story feedback or TestFlight feedback, we receive the content you send.
What we do not do
- We do not record audio from your microphone. The app plays story voiceovers; a system permission string may appear because of the audio library we use, but we do not capture your voice.
- We do not sell your personal information.
Third-party services
The app relies on services operated by others, including:
- Our backend API — Account and app data are sent to servers we operate to run the product.
- Google Sign-In — If you choose Google sign-in, Google processes your sign-in according to Google’s Privacy Policy.
- Mapbox — Map tiles and map-related requests are handled by Mapbox under Mapbox’s privacy terms.
- Apple TestFlight — Beta distribution and crash diagnostics may be processed by Apple when you install via TestFlight.
Why we use this information
We use information to:
- Provide sign-in and keep your account
- Show relevant map content near you
- Save your discoveries, stories, and collectibles
- Operate, debug, and improve the beta
- Respond to support and privacy requests
Legal basis (EEA / UK users)
Where applicable, we process data based on your consent (for example location permission), performance of the service you request, and our legitimate interest in running and improving a beta product.
Retention
This is a prototype beta. We may reset, delete, or migrate test data as the product changes. We keep information only as long as needed for the beta and related operations, unless a longer period is required by law.
Security
We use reasonable technical measures to protect data in transit and on our servers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Your choices and rights
You can:
- Deny or revoke location permission in iOS Settings (the map will not work fully without it)
- Sign out or stop using the app at any time
- Contact us to ask about access, correction, or deletion of your account data where applicable law gives you that right
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
International transfers
Data may be processed on servers and by providers in countries other than where you live, including within the EU and elsewhere, with appropriate safeguards where required.
Changes to this policy
We may update this page as the app evolves. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the beta after changes means you accept the updated policy.
